In an alternating storyline\, the older Fellini (Federico Fellini) goes back to make a movie about Rome\, filming things like traffic jams at the Colosseum and the subway system\, which hides underground crypts. DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a special book signing event with Julia Nunnally Duncan on Sunday\, March 16th at 3PM! Julia Nunnally Duncan is an award-winning author of twelve books of poetry and prose\, including her essay collection All We Have Loved (Finishing Line Press\, 2023) and poetry collection When Time Was Suspended (Redhawk Publications\, 2024). Julia is a native of Western North Carolina and has been inspired by her working-class childhood in a textile town. Her works have garnered praise from acclaimed authors\, including Ron Rash\, Fred Chappell\, Lee Smith\, and many others. Her essays frequently appear in Smoky Mountain Living Magazine and WNC Magazine. A review of All We Have Loved recently appeared in Smoky Mountain Living\,  Southern Literary Review\, and the Spring 2024 online issue of North Carolina Literary Review. A review of When Time Was Suspended is featured in the current Winter 2025 online issue of North Carolina Literary Review. Julia lives in Marion\, NC\, with her husband\, Steve\, a mountain woodcarver.

DESCRIPTION:Every Monday Ivy Rozen\, Senior Editor of The Black Mountain Press\, will host a poetry-specific open mic from 6:30pm-9pm. Each poet will be able to share 2-3 poems\, and then we’ll close out the evening with a special reading from Michael Hettich\, who’s most recent book of poetry\, The Halo of Bees: New and Selected Poems\, 1990-2022 won the 2024 Brockman-Campbell Book Award from the North Carolina Poetry Society. His poetry\, essays\, and reviews have appeared widely in many journals and anthologies\, and he has published more than a dozen books of poetry across four decades. His other honors include several Individual Artist Fellowships from the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs\, The Tampa Review Prize in Poetry\, the David Martinson/Meadowhawk Prize\, a Florida Book Award\, the Lena M. Shull Book Award from the North Carolina Poetry Society\, and the inaugural Hudson-Fowler Prize from Slant magazine at the University of Central Arkansas. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Miami and taught for many years at Miami Dade College where he was awarded an Endowed Teaching Chair. His novel The Falls of the Wyona is a winner of Red Hen’s Quill Prize for queer fiction. His play\, Washington Place\, will be produced (for the 3rd time locally) at HART in Waynesville this October. DESCRIPTION:Classic movies from around the world! \n“The Cremator” (1969\, Horror/Comedy\, 1h 42m\, Czechoslovakia\, by Juraj Herz)\nIn Prague\, Kopfrkingl (Rudolf Hrusínský) enjoys his work at the crematorium perhaps a bit too much\, having gained a perverse idea of reincarnation from his haphazard studies of Tibet. After World War II breaks out\, there is a sudden need to be as Aryan as possible\, and Kopfrkingl’s old friend Reinke (Ilja Prachar) points out that Kopfrkingl has some German heritage. But his wife is Jewish\, which makes his children Jewish\, which makes the now-Nazi Kopfrkingl’s blood boil. \nDonation-based admission. Light refreshments available.

DESCRIPTION:Classic movies from around the world! \n“Where the Green Ants Dream” (1984\, 1h 40m\, West Germany/Australia\, by Werner Herzog)\nA surveying team led by Australian geologist Lance Hackett (Bruce Spence) is setting off subterranean explosions deep in the outback\, searching for possible uranium mining sites. Hackett’s work is interrupted by Aboriginals Miliritbi (Wandjuk Marika) and Dayipu (Roy Marika)\, who claim that green ants dream underneath this land\, and\, if the insects’ slumbers are interrupted\, the world will come to an end.
