Foreign Film Friday: “Another Round”

(2020, 2h, Denmark, Comedy by Thomas Vinterberg)

1 Oscar, 60 wins. Four high school teachers experiment with maintaining a constant blood alcohol level to cure their midlife burnout, with initially euphoric but ultimately dark results. Director Thomas Vinterberg uses a naturalistic, handheld cinematography style with realistic lighting that shifts from static and drab to kinetic and chaotic. This documentary-like approach perfectly mirrors the characters’ state of mind, capturing both the highs of intoxication and the bleak reality of addiction. Starring Mads Mikkelsen.
