Foreign Film Friday: “Perfect Days”

(2023 2hr 4m, Japan Drama/Narrative by Wim Wenders, co-written with Takuma Takasaki). 1 Oscar, 50 wins.

A quiet Tokyo toilet cleaner finds profound joy in a life stripped down to cassettes, paperbacks, and the sunlight filtering through trees. Wim Wenders captures this serene world through an intimate, square aspect ratio and patient, observational camerawork that transforms an ordinary routine into a hypnotic visual poem. Without traditional plot or heavy dialogue, this meditative film quietly challenges how we measure a successful life.
